Study of interactions between organisms that contribute to crop cultivation under environmental stress

【FOOD】 Ohtsu Team (FY2024 Activities Completed) *Information as of the end of FY2024

  • Overview

Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR), microorganisms with plant growth-promoting effects, are attracting attention as alternatives to chemical fertilizers for sustainable agriculture, but their mechanisms of action at the molecular level are still largely unknown. Understanding the mechanisms is important to make stable, effective, and easy-to-use biofertilizer with PGPR. We will also isolate and identify PGPRs suitable for the environmental conditions in which they will be used and verify their effectiveness in fields. Furthermore, while fertilization and application of PGPR are effective when applied according to crop growth conditions, uneven crop growth in a field is a problem. By utilizing remote sensing technology, we will construct a model to estimate crop growth conditions and stress levels and develop a method to evaluate crop production dynamics by integrating the model with existing crop growth and yield prediction models.
