Title | "Cell Fate Determined by Sulfate: Biological Roles of Sulfated Glycans in Cellular Function"
Most cells in our bodies are covered with glycans, or “Tousa,” which regulate various biological functions. Sulfation, the transfer of a sulfuryl moiety, confers additional diversity to glycan structure and functions. We study these posttranslational modifications and the extracellular interactions between sulfated glycans and recognition molecules in higher organisms. Our research aims to discover the new physio-pathological roles of the sulfated glycans in immune responses, neuroinflammation, and related disorders. I will discuss how sulfated glycans regulate lymphocyte extravasation and present some of our research findings. |
