Title | "Are Automation and Digitalization the Technologies that will Enable Diversification of Crop Production?"
The global crisis: climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution and water scarcity are challenging agricultural systems around the world. Uniform modern agriculture fails to sustain the resources it relies on. But Diversification supports safeguarding of natural resources, improves resilience, and productivity (IPES 2016). We therefore need to develop Technical innovations to enable the diversification of crop production. But while technologies are the key tools, technology alone is no solution - we need to set the correct strategic targets in order to define the requirements for technology development. In this seminar Prof Cornelia Weltzien will present the most common Digitalization and Automation technologies and will discuss with the audience on possibilities how to improve current agricultural challenges with the help of different technologies. For the students / listeners: It would be great to think of a few examples from the individual backgrounds, where do you see the most urgent problems in agricultural practices? What do practitioners tell you? What is your own experience? Do you think technology could help? And if so which technologies? and which technologies do your practitioners already apply? |
