Title | "Posttranslational regulation of cell surface proteinase: crucial events for cell migration and invasion"
One of the cell surface proteinases, MT1-MMP, promotes invasion of various cell types, including cancer cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and macrophages. Usually, proteolytic enzymes are tightly regulated in vivo by their gene expression, activation of the zymogen, and inhibition by endogenous inhibitors. However, recent findings suggest that MT1-MMP further requires various post-translational regulation, allowing the control of the MT1-MMP activity during cell invasion dynamically. Using this knowledge, novel means to regulate unwanted cellular invasion can be developed. |
