Title | "Artificial intelligence for smart agriculture"
In the era of Big Data, artificial intelligence (AI), especially machine learning and deep learning, has become an important tool in agriculture. AI can automate various labor-intensive tasks such as crop yield estimation, disease detection, and agroecosystem health assessment. I will present a variety of AI applications in agricultural studies ranging from soil microbes to country-wide crop yield prediction. One example is working with 1,000 smallholder farmers in Peru and Colombia to develop a portable AI device that can help farmers predict crop yield using their own smartphones. I will also present career paths in research in Germany for young scientists. |
