Title | "Evaluation of oceanic blue carbon potential in waters around Taiwan"
To mitigate the impact of climate change on the earth, many countries have claimed to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. However, the slogan “net-zero emissions” is a big challenge for many countries. In this talk, I will review current carbon emissions and natural carbon sinks, including green carbon and blue carbon, in Taiwan based on recent literature in coastal blue carbon and our oceanic blue carbon investigations in waters around Taiwan. Besides, these particulate and dissolved organic carbon (POC and DOC) produced by various blue carbon ecosystems will be evaluated, respectively. Finally, I will address potential strategies, mainly on increasing oceanic carbon sink methods which can be used to help blue carbon sinks in Taiwan and/or subtropical and tropical countries. |
