Title "Mixed experimental-computational plasticity: basics of digital image correlation and inverse methods"

<Abstract>
The advancement of optical-numerical techniques has opened new avenues for observing the behaviour metals. The use of CCD/CMOS cameras in experimental mechanics has disruptively changed the way we can observe surface deformations of solids subjected to a plethora of loading conditions. The tracking of displacements relies on digital image processing algorithms, amongst of which Digital Image Correlation (DIC) techniques are the most widely used. The only prerequisite for DIC techniques is that a random grey-level pattern is attached to the surface of the deforming body. The ability to accurately track and quantify displacements and strains enables engineers to evaluate material behaviour. This capability makes DIC a powerful tool for various applications, including material testing, structural analysis and product development. In this seminar, the basics of Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and inverse methods to characterise plastic material behavior of metals are introduced. In addition, some recent advanced topics will be discussed along with practical applications.
