Title | "From Autonomous Mobility to Automated Transportation - and overview of related activities at Chalmers"
In the recent decade, general autonomous mobility for people and goods has been in focus for the automotive industry and other stakeholders. However, in recent years, there is a stall of the driverless car revolution. The reality is setting in with the challenges and complexity involved*. A recent trend, at least in some parts of Europe, is to focus instead on automated transport of material in confined areas or people along predefined routes. Automated driving can still happen on highways with clearly marked lanes, limited to motorised vehicles all going in the same direction. Widespread use in cities remains some way further out. The long-term benefits of vehicle automation for general mobility are still there. In this presentation, the aim is first to introduce research activities in vehicle safety and automation around Chalmers University of Technology and secondly to present ongoing research by the presenter to develop assistance system for evasive maneuvers using integrated chassis control with innovative usage the vehicle powertrain. * Gordon, T. & Lidberg, M., Automated driving and autonomous functions on road vehicles, Vehicle System Dynamics, Vol. 53, 2015 - Issue 7. |
