Green Infrastructure for Resilient Watershed Resource Management

【FOOD】 Gomi Unit

  • Overview

For maintaining sustainable agriculture and forestry, regional disaster prevention and mitigation measures is essential. Recent increases in natural disasters and soil degradation make difficulty for regional development, water resources, food supplies for
communities. Green infrastructure is one of the approaches for balancing between sustainable resources used, ecological conservation, and mitigation of natural disasters.  We have developed a platform that can handle “agriculture”, “forestry”, and “disaster countermeasures” that have been individually treated in an integrated manner for resource management and disaster prevention planning. Using both field monitoring and the model, we develop not only the technical guideline by showing the procedure of the method for sustainable management of local resources, but also the hazard map and water runoff prediction model necessary for the disaster prevention plan.
We are also expanding idea of green infrastructure development as part of watershed resource management in water and food issues around the world.
